Verifying the system sustains illumination for the required in-service duration
Ensuring all fittings are returned to normal operation after testing
Recording results and any corrective actions in the site logbook

Where fittings fail to operate satisfactorily, we repair or replace them promptly, including battery replacement where required.

For larger installations, we may use a rotational testing methodology - ensuring no individual fitting exceeds the prescribed maintenance interval.

Twelve-Monthly Maintenance

Annually, we undertake a more comprehensive inspection, which includes:

All six-monthly functional checks
Cleaning of light-emitting and reflective surfaces
Visual confirmation that emergency lighting operates correctly in relation to the normal lighting system
Verification of system performance under discharge testing

This ensures not only operational compliance, but also that illumination levels are not compromised by environmental factors such as dust accumulation or degradation of components.

Duration of Operation - What We Verify

Emergency lighting is not just about switching on - it must remain operational for the required duration.

At commissioning, systems are tested beyond the minimum duration to account for future battery degradation
During service life, each luminaire and exit sign must operate for at least 90 minutes on emergency power (unless building regulations specify otherwise)

Our testing methodology verifies this performance while protecting battery integrity and system lifespan.

Record Keeping and Accountability

Every maintenance visit is documented in the site logbook, including:

Test outcomes
Any faults identified
Corrective actions taken
Component replacements
